A Foodie At Home
It’s pizza night! My kids love pizza. Actually, I love pizza- who doesn’t? According to my kids, homemade pizza isn’t just a weekend meal. This recipe uses the bread machine to make the dough for the crust, so it’s easy enough for a weekday meal.
I have two very picky kids at home. Factoring this in, topping variation is nil. We eat a lot of cheese pizza, or rock pizza as my youngest calls it- I think it’s to do with the browned spots on the melted cheese. I do branch out and add pepperoni for the kids, sometimes. The grown up pizza- we get only one- has more. I like fresh basil and bacon, with grated fresh parmesan and asiago with the mozzerella. The recipe below is for the cheese pizza, a.k.a. rock pizza. Add any toppings your family likes. Enjoy pizza night!
Homemade Pizza
Equipment
- Bread machine
- Pizza pans
Ingredients
Pizza Sauce
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes canned
- 4 T tomato paste
- 1 T basil dry
- 1 T oregano dry
- ½ T salt
- ¼ T pepper
Pizza Crust
- 2 t yeast
- 3 c all purpose flour
- 1 c white whole wheat flour
- 2 t sugar
- 1½ 4 salt
- 5 T olive oil
- 1½ c water
For the pizza:
- ¼ c sauce per pizza
- 1¾ c grated mozzerella cheese per pizza
Instructions
For the sauce:
- Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
For the crust:
- Combine all ingredients in your bread machine in the order your machine calls for. I've listed the ingredients in the order that they go into my bread machine. Set the machine for pizza dough. Mine runs for 45 minutes.
- Once the dough is finished remove from bread machine and split in half. Roll each half into a ball and then flatten to a disk. Put each disk in the center of a pizza pan and spread out to the edge of the pan. Brush lightly with olive oil. Prebake 3 minutes at 450°.
For the pizza:
- Spread pizza sauce around the prebaked crust. I start in the center and spread it out in a circular motion to about ½ inch from the edge. Spread mozzerella over the sauce. Top with desired toppings. Bake at 450° until cheese is melted and browned in spots, about 10 minutes.
